What Is a Cat Sitting Meet and Greet? What to Expect Before You Book
Last updated: February 2026
If you’re considering booking a cat sitter and are still deciding between cat sitting and a cattery, you might find our guide helpful.
At My Three Cats, we always carry out a Meet and Greet before your first booking. It’s an essential part of our service and one of the reasons our clients feel confident leaving their cats (and their homes) in our care.
Here’s what you can expect.

Why do we do a Meet and Greet?
A Meet and Greet is a face-to-face consultation in your home before you travel.
It gives you the opportunity to:
• Meet your allocated cat sitter
• Ask questions
• Walk us through your routine
• Feel comfortable handing over your keys
We understand that inviting someone into your home requires trust. This visit is about building that trust before you go away.
Meeting your Cat Sitter
Depending on your location, you’ll be matched with one of our trained cat-sitters.
The Meet and Greet allows you to put a face to the name, and just as importantly, allows your cat to meet us in a calm, low-pressure way.
Many cats ignore us entirely the first time - and that’s absolutely fine. We work at their pace.

Discussing your Cat's Routine
Cats thrive on routine. The more closely we can mirror what happens when you’re home, the more relaxed they will be. This is especially important for anxious cats who struggle with change.
During your Meet and Greet, we take detailed notes about:
Food
What they eat, how much, where it’s served - and all the little quirks in between.
Some cats like food warmed slightly.
Some prefer it chopped.
Some need feeding slowly to prevent vomiting.
Some eat on a shelf, others use microchip feeders.
Whatever their routine is, we stick to it.
Water
You’d be surprised how particular cats can be about water.
Bowls, fountains, glasses, taps - we’ve seen it all. If your cat prefers running water from the sink (with your permission), we’ll happily oblige - and probably send you a video.
Litter trays
Litter type, location, cleaning preferences are all covered.
We scoop solids at every visit and dispose of waste in an outside bin. If you have specific instructions, we follow them.
Play and Comfort
Beyond the practical needs, we want to understand your cat as an individual.
Do they love interactive play?
Are they shy and prefer quiet reassurance?
Where do they like to sleep?
Do they enjoy being picked up - or absolutely not?
The more we know, the more tailored the visits can be.
Medication and Health
If your cat requires medication, we take detailed instructions during the Meet and Greet.
We also record:
• Vet details
• Emergency procedures
• Your permission for veterinary treatment if required
Your cat’s health and safety are always our priority.
Home Security
We don’t just care for cats - we also help keep your home secure while you’re away.
We can:
• Open and close curtains
• Turn lights on and off
• Put bins out
• Water plants
We’ll also ask for a local emergency contact in case of unexpected issues such as a leak or power cut.
Keys and Access
You can either:
• Provide us with a house key at the Meet and Greet
• Install a coded key safe
Many clients prefer a key safe, as it avoids keys being carried around and keeps access secure.
We are fully insured and DBS checked for your peace of mind.
What Happens after the Meet and Greet?
All details are securely recorded in our Time To Pet system. During your booking, you’ll receive detailed daily updates with photos and messages after every visit.
By the time you travel, everything is organised, documented and ready.
